7 of this Year’s Top Hair Products and Why They’re So Good for Your Hair

In the last few years, we’ve all become completely obsessed with skincare. Which is totally fine, but our love of skincare might be distracting us from something just as important; our hair. If we want healthy, manageable hair, we simply have to put in a little effort. Whether you want perfect waves or need to add strength back into your hair routine, these are the products that will make you excited to show your hair some attention, without adding any further damage.

Ouai Wave Spray – $26.00

Using a product like Ouai Wave Spray for beachy waves is a great way to add some life to your hair without the heat damage from a curling iron. Celebrity hairstylist Jen Atkin has mastered effortless beachy waves on everyone from Chrissy Teigen to Jessica Alba, so it makes sense for her brand to have one of the most popular wave sprays of the year. Instead of using a salt spray, which can damage or dry out hair, this one has rice protein in it to keep waves in place while adding a gorgeous shine.

If anyone knows the importance of hair care, it’s girls with curly hair. A quality product for curly hair can be transformative, and DevaCurl has been a game-changer for so many women. They have a ton of great products that work well together, but their SuperCream Coconut Curl style is perfect for anyone with super curly hair who wants it to be smoother, volumized, and frizz-free- it really does it all.

Our hair can become damaged by a number of things. Hot styling tools, tight elastic hair bands, color and chemical treatments-you name it. It’s unfortunate that the simple upkeep of our hair can cause so much damage, which is why every so often we need a quality treatment to hydrate and revitalize our hair. Olaplex No. 3 works on all hair types, from pin straight to tightly coiled, and should be used once a week to strengthen hair and prevent future breakage. This product has become a cult-favorite this year due to its ability to completely rehabilitate even the most damaged hair.

Briogeo has become one of the most popular hair care brands this year because their products just work, it’s as simple as that. Their Scalp Revival is a lifesaver for those with dry, flaky scalps, which is truly one of the most annoying (and embarrassing) hair concerns. Itchy scalps are uncomfortable, so if the winter weather is drying out your scalp, you’ll definitely want this soothing oil. It contains charcoal to draw impurities from the scalp, which is accompanied by peppermint and spearmint oils for a cooling effect, as well as tea tree oil and witch hazel to reduce inflammation and normalize oil production, respectively. It doesn’t feel greasy and the results are oh so worth it.

Did you know that the suds in shampoo aren’t really necessary and that the detergent used to create those suds can actually be damaging? Crazy, right. A lot of us have a mental block against products without suds, we just don’t feel clean afterward, but a suds-free shampoo just takes some getting used to. That’s not the only thing that makes Hairstory’s New Wash special. It also promises to cleanse, condition, detangle and repair all by itself- you don’t even need a conditioner. New Wash converts are obsessed with the way this product has brought life back into their hair. It adds moisture, de-frizzes, and cleanses without stripping natural oils that your hair needs.

You know we couldn’t get through a post about popular hair products without mentioning dry shampoo. Dry shampoos are everyone’s favorite secret weapon because of how they quickly and easily remove oils and add volume. The only issue is that not all dry shampoos are amazing. Some can dry out your scalp, and if you overuse any dry shampoo it can cause buildup resulting in patchy hair growth. You don’t want that, so to be a responsible dry shampoo user you must use it sparingly (just not all day every day) and choose a good one. This is where DryBar’s Detox Dry Shampoo comes into play, it uses rice powders to absorb oils and golden root extract to increase moisture, which is vital.

This is sort of a wildcard because it’s more of an accessory than a hair product, but hear us out. Scrunchies are making a comeback, and even if you don’t agree with this nod to the ‘90’s, silk scrunchies are a lot better for your hair than regular hair bands, or -gasp- rubber bands. You’ve probably heard that silk pillowcases are great to sleep on because they prevent breakage, and it’s the same idea with these. A silk scrunchie gently holds your hair in place without tugging, meaning no breakage or damage.
