9 Celebrity Makeup Artists Who Need to Be on Your Radar

Here at NBGA, we’re constantly admiring celebrity beauty looks. One of the cool things about social media is getting a behind the scenes look into the world of celebrity makeup artists, and learning more about the person responsible for such iconic beauty moments. A lot of these makeup artists are rising to a level of stardom themselves, as we’ve seen with Kim K’s makeup artist Mario Dedivanovic who has 5.6 million Instagram followers, or they go on to create their own beauty brands using their years of expertise to develop popular products as Charlotte Tilbury did.

It’s fun to follow these makeup artists and see which looks they’ve created for celebs, but it’s also a good source of inspiration if you’re learning to do makeup or just want to refine and enhance your skills. After all, nothing is more relaxing than watching Youtube tutorials of Beyoncé’s makeup artist, Sir John explaining his techniques in his soothing voice, but more on that later. We’ve rounded up some of the top makeup artists to the stars, from super successful MUA’s to up and coming artists you might not have heard of.

Mariah Carey needs no introduction. She is simply an icon, someone who most of us have followed for our entire lives. But who is responsible for her flawless, always perfect face? It’s the equally flawless Kristofer Buckle, a makeup artist who works with several celebrities, but most frequently with Mariah. If you love makeup with a perfect, almost photoshopped finish, then you’ll love Kristofer Buckle. He also has his own makeup line, and if you’re looking to get a warm glow without using harsh bronzer, take a look at his Warming Powder.

Daniel Martin has worked with countless celebs, but there’s one little detail that sets him apart from the rest. He did Meghan Markle’s makeup on her wedding day. You know, the Duchess of Sussex? No big deal. Daniel used his expertise to create a look that was glamorous, yet let Meghan’s natural beauty (and freckles) shine through. He’s also a Dior brand ambassador, so you know he was using some quality makeup at the Royal Wedding.

Speaking of Royal Weddings, you’ve probably been following Priyanka Chopra and Nick Jonas’ whirlwind romance that led to an extravagant wedding this month. Priyanka is just one of Pati Dubroff’s many clients, as she’s one of the top makeup artists in the business. She’s created countless looks that range from bare-faced and natural to high-glam, and she’s not afraid of a bold red lip.

If you’re into colorful makeup and graphic looks, then you’ll love Hung Vanngo. You can easily check out the work he’s done with each of his celeb clients on his Instagram highlights, where he shows off looks he created for stars like Sophie Turner, Emily Ratajkowski, and Bella Hadid. He’s also the man behind several of Selena Gomez’s iconic looks.

Katie Jane Hughes is a great follow on Instagram because of the incredible variety of makeup looks she posts, and of course, because she works with models like Ashley Graham and Rosie Huntington-Whitely. Her posts are perfect for when you need some beauty inspo, but good luck trying to focus on anything other than her perfectly glossy skin.

Remember when Rihanna dropped Fenty Beauty and broke the internet? And then continued to break the internet with virtually every product release? Well, the genius makeup artist behind the brand is Priscilla Ono. Priscilla’s been working with Rihanna for years, and it’s her talent and foresight that earned her a spot as Fenty’s Global Beauty Artist, where she’s helped RiRi develop an inclusive and exciting makeup line.

This list wouldn’t be complete without Beyoncè’s incredibly talented yet down-to-earth makeup artist, Sir John. Maybe you’d think that anyone working that closely with Queen Bey would be tight-lipped about all of his beauty secrets, but Sir John is quite the opposite, and we’re so thankful for that. When he’s not traveling the world with A-list celebs, Sir John is happy to sit down for an interview and even has a few beauty tutorials on YouTube that are so worth your time, like this one where he does his signature “Blue Denim” eyes on Rosie Huntington-Whitely.

Gigi and Bella Hadid are the faces of this new generation of supermodels, but who is behind their constant fresh-faced glow? One of their go-to makeup artists is Erin Parsons, but she does so much more than just emphasize their natural beauty with a light hand. A fan of vintage and Old Hollywood-inspired looks, Erin often puts Gigi and Bella in Avante Garde looks.

What do Olivia Munn, Shay Mitchell, and Jenna Dewan have in common? They always look damn good, and that’s because they all have Patrick Ta applying sultry eye makeup and illuminating highlighter to their gorgeous faces. Tons of celebs have sought out Patrick as their makeup artist, and we have a feeling it’s because of his ability to create vivid and fun beauty moments that don’t look too heavy or overdone.
