If you’re looking for minimally chic knits for these chilly days, Christina Seewald is the designer for you. Based in London, the Central Saint Martins grad is on our radar and creates the must-have knitwear basics and sexy, intricate patchwork with a modern twist. As a native from Graz, Austria, Seewald’s designs are sustainably innovative and empowering, with a major focus on craftsmanship. Although Seewald is early into her career, Seewald’s designs have already appeared in places like SSENSE and i-D. Her designs are sensual and gender-neutral, yet comforting and warm. Each piece is tailored to perfection, and her garments designs are cozy, sheer, and overall tastefully sensual.
Using soft and form-fitting fabrics like cashmere and eco-fabrics like viscose, Seewald’s garments embody femininity, with each piece wrapping perfectly on the silhouette. You can expect a diverse range of techniques and styles from Seewald, as she experiments with garments like ultra long-sleeved dresses and deconstructed sweaters.
Inspired by feminine hygiene, her FW 20/21 ready-to-wear collection titled “Shewee” (a feminine urinating device) is timeless and classic, and plays with conforming to the concept of femininity. The virtual collection, which was also her MA collection for Central Saint Martins, is presented digitally in response to the Covid-19 pandemic. But despite being recorded lo-fi from the models’ homes, the show was intimate and cozy, while it also displayed jaw-dropping loungewear like knitted lingerie and sheer cardigans.
