Dr. Selma Uygun is the queen of non-invasive beauty regimes

As technology advances, every aspect of society follows suit. Even in the world of beauty. From botanical skincare to anti-aging lasers you can do in the comfort of your own home, there’s almost no end in sight to what the future of beauty could look like. The constant evolution of this space is fast, innovative, and driven by deliverable results. In the world of plastic surgery, non-invasive procedures are on the rise, accounting for a 180% increase in popularity over the last 20 years, according to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons. For Selma Uygun, it’s forever been her calling.

Dr Selma Uygun

Doctor Selma Uygun is a Düsseldorf-based plastic surgeon, holistic medic, and absolute queen of non-invasive beauty treatments. Praised for trading invasive surgery for other alternatives, she’s focused completely on her clientele’s spiritual wellness and delivering naturally beautiful, quick results with little to no downtime. Selma is also one of the only otorhinolaryngologists and certified experts in functional and aesthetic noses, specializing in a technique that uses cortisone injections to shape and shrink the nasal region of the face in Germany. As a member of the Lipolysis Network, a team of over 850 doctors from 52 countries that research and study how to safely and successfully use the namesake treatment, she is an expert in the lipolysis injection, which is the breakdown of fats and other lipids by hydrolysis to release fatty acids in the body.

For those of us who don’t want to undergo painful and long surgery but do wish to try beauty treatments, Dr. Selma’s substitute may be the answer to our prayers. If you’re looking for a doctor to trust with your face and inner wellness, you’ve come to the right place. For Selma, each individual patient’s needs are vastly different.

“Treating my patients in harmony with nature is particularly important to me. I always combine naturopathic procedures with surgical or minimally invasive procedures and thus help to create an individual and natural look. This helps me to achieve inner and outer balance because my credo is: A beautiful soul shines outwards!

If you’re lucky enough to get into Dr. Selma’s hands (her ever-growing business is booked out for appointments months in advance), the work speaks for itself. We here at NBGA Mag sat down with Dr. Uygun to discuss some of her most popular, non-invasive treatments:

The Mint Lift:

A mint lift is a type of procedure wherein temporary sutures are used to produce a subtle but visible ‘lift’ in the skin. This has the effect of pulling the skin back slightly and therefore lifting and tightening the face. In addition to being ideal for lifting the skin, threads combat aging in another way: by provoking the body’s ‘healing response’ and causing the body to direct large surges of collagen to the treated areas. ⠀

These threads are biodegradable and made of polydioxanone and provide support to sagging facial tissues for a noticeable lift, meaning that they will completely dissolve. The threads offer a unique blend of skin lifting and tightening effects for a non-surgical, minimally invasive alternative to surgical procedures. While the procedure is used for lifting, the skin is simultaneously stimulated to produce collagen in the treated areas resulting in natural skin tightening in the area that has been treated.⠀⠀

Putting threads in the mid-face can give you the anti-aging results of your dreams! This includes improving nasolabial folds and marionette lines. It can also sculpt your jawline and give you a quick cheek lifting, contoured effect. A youthful transformation and glow is the goal here.

Crystal Cortisone Injections:

This procedure works to reduce the size of the nose with crystal cortisone. The procedure lasts only a few minutes and reduces the size of the nose with an effect that lasts a lifetime. With thick nasal skin or scars after nasal surgery, the narrowing of the nose with crystal cortisone works particularly well. While working with Dr. Uygun, she makes sure to schedule a follow-up appointment after three weeks because there are some side effects that can occur, such as the nose degrading unevenly. The crystal cortisone itself has no other side effects, as it is not injected into the bones or nasal cartilage.

Patients with excess skin after nasal surgery are particularly ideal for this type of procedure, but noses without nasal surgery with very thick skin and a lot of tissue in this region are also suitable. Nose wings can also be narrowed with crystal cortisone. Dr. Selma can also use a combination of the injections with hyaluronic treatment of the nose and a tip elevation with COG threads for even better results. 10 minutes a session and you’re done!

This procedure should be done conscientiously. The crystal cortisone is injected into the nose in drops. The nose should then be treated according to the doctor’s massage method. Even if you undergo this procedure, you are able to get nose surgery in the future if you please. To avoid pigment shifts in the region, you should avoid sun exposure and saunas for 4 weeks after the procedure.

This procedure is done step by step in eight-week intervals to ensure that the patient’s nose is treated accordingly and that they can get used to their new look. Even a 5% narrowing of the nose has a great effect on the degree on how the patient feels post-op.

The crystal cortisone method should only be performed by experienced and routined nasal surgeons. This method is borrowed from scar treatment from plastic surgery. There, keloids and scar growths have always been treated with crystal cortisone in order to reduce the scar thickness in which the crystal cortisone breaks down connective tissue.

CO2 Laser:

The CO2 laser is super popular for the treatment of wrinkles, acne scars, pigmentation, surgical scars and keloids, as well as large pores and more! They can all be reduced with the fractionated CO2 laser. How does the process work? First, the top layer of skin is peeled off by the laser and wrinkles and scars are removed. Young, new and smooth skin grows back.

The nice thing about the fractionated CO2 laser treatment is that it is gentler than chemical peels. Nevertheless, after the treatment, a scab layer develops on the skin for four to ten days that needs to be cared for. A high-fat skin care cream is best for this. Please note that you are not allowed to use makeup on the day of treatment. You can do this as soon as all of the scab has fallen off (this usually happens after seven to ten days at the latest). You can laser in the summer months, but the winter months are preferred. You should avoid sunbathing and use sunscreen that is at least SPF 50. Depending on the condition of the skin, several treatments are required every four to seven weeks. You always treat the entire face so that there are no pigment shifts.

Lipolysis Injections:

Depending on the region, the lipolysis injection can help with stubborn pockets of fat that don’t go away with exercise and diet. If you are looking to avoid surgery, this can be an excellent method to use. In 1995, the first lipolysis was developed by a Brazilian doctor. This natural preparation is obtained from soybeans. The active ingredient phosphatidylcholine is injected into the areas where fat is supposed to melt. Unwanted cushions melt after this non-surgical treatment. The fat is metabolized and removed via the lymph. The number of treatments is determined depending on how large the area to be treated is. Usually 2 – 4 treatments are sufficient. The treatment takes 15 – 30 minutes, is carried out on an outpatient basis and under local anesthesia. The regions you can treat with the fat-away injection are: the area under the chin, upper arms, back/bra area, hips, upper and lower abdomen, inner thighs, and saddlebags.
