I don’t need a Valentine, I need Valentino | iconic V-Day Looks

Valentine’s Day may be the ultimate “Hallmark Holiday”, but it’s difficult not to get swooped into the whirlwind of the holiday’s vibes. It really is the perfect excuse to stock up on chocolate, splurge on red lipstick set, or better yet formulate a brand new outfit. I mean…you were going to do it anyway, right? Whether you plan on spending Valentine’s Day with a S.O., friends (shoutout to Galentine’s Day), or simply celebrating yourself it can be an opportunity to channel your inner glamazon and get festive by experiment with a new semblance.

Cozy

If you want to stay cozy all night long: Who says staying warm can’t be sexy? Remember when Rihanna was photographed feeding pigeons in her heart-shaped cape? Casually looking flawless (per usual) in a $15k + Saint Laurent piece? The fuzzy coat and her amazingly toned legs were pretty much the stars of the show and a reminder that you can be #cozy without being boring.

The monochromatic look

“Check On It” is probably one of my favorite Beyoncé songs and IMHO a severely underrated one. The music video is chalk full of rosy outfits perfectly suited for the holiday. Beyoncé shows us how to pull off a monochromatic look without looking flat. The key? Playing with hues, textures, and materials to create an aesthetically pleasing uniform sans the blandness.

A good statement piece

Fran Fine has an archive of amazing looks that could fill up anyone’s inspo board. Most of her looks on The Nanny played with prints and color, and even her “simple” ensembles were playful. For example, the LBD and heart shaped Moschino purse ensemble she rocked on the episode “An Offer She Can’t Refuse”, Fran blended the classic with a touch of color for the perfect date night look. Time to pick out your favorite LBD and pair it with a bold and thematic statement piece.

 The ultimate “squad goals”

Who better to draw inspiration from than the queens of pink? It is time to make Regina George proud – gather your gang, grab your most assertive statement tees, and paint the town pink. Also, how appropriate is it that Valentine’s Day totally falls on a Wednesday this year? Very fetch.

If you want to be bad af: Pam Grier’s red jumpsuit in Foxy Brown (1974) was A LOOK. Seize the moment to be daring and badass af by channeling your inner fox! Experimenting with different cuts and silhouettes may be intimidating, but as tennis player Petra Kvitova said, “It’s ok to have fear, but it’s also a thrill to overcome it.” *Logs onto Fashion Nova*

If you’re a professional lounger: For those who love to relax opting for a silky robe may be the answer. This should already be a part of any self-care kit, but if it is not, add it to the priority list! Whether you’re getting ready for a night out on the town or applying a face mask for a quiet night in, both are done better when wrapped in something luxurious.

If you want to be iconic: Cher has never been one to shy away from ~lewks~, whether showing off her abs in a bedazzled top or rocking a sheer one piece her costumes have always been iconic. Her well document fashion choice will definitely have you taking the leap towards a much more experimental route this V-Day. If you want something that will reflect beautifully under the light of a beautiful lit dinner, a little sparkle is calling your name. Sequins anyone?
