During a global pandemic, wearing a face mask serves the greater good of public health. And if we’re going to be wearing masks outside for the unforeseeable future, we can at least look good while doing so. A silver lining: it gives us even more of an excuse to go all out with graphic eyeliner and bold lashes this season. Here’s a round-up of stylish protective wear to accent all of your fall looks. *These are fashion masks with none claiming to be medical in use; depending on design, some styles can also be worn over a surgical mask for added protection.
This protective fashion wear appeared on our radar because the designer offers an array of brown-hued masks to complement the wearer’s own shade of nude. Shami Oshun’s site also offers an eye-catching reflective version of the mask when you’re opting for making a bolder statement.
Formerly known as Slashed by Tia, designer Tia Adeola has flawlessly made ruffles a staple of her designs and inspired many with her sheer coordinated sets. During quarantine, the creator offered this Victorian, avant-garde mask option that’s adjustable and gives off a dramatic flair with her signature ruffles adorning the face and neck.
These lovely and eclectic fashion masks by New York-based Collina Strada are made from deadstock fabrics, so no two patterns will be alike. Truly one-of-a-kind and you can adjust how you want to style the bows!
If you’re looking to make a subtle but powerful statement, try fringe. Arizona artist Noelle Gomez is selling these embellished masks so that we can all channel our inner Orville Peck (and ultimately our inner Western rockstar). The masks are available in both long and short varieties; match it to your hair or your fringed leather jacket this fall.
Made from vintage fabric masks including silk and brocade, each Courtyard LA mask is a rarity. Many of the styles have lacy elastic straps for both adjustability and flair.
L.A. brand Altaire offers masks in a variety of textures and prints, from silk to ribbed cotton to an adorable white eyelet pattern. A mask is also donated with each purchase.
Etsy shop Bloodlight and Bambi sells an array of masks to match any look. The gingham and daisy option would be perfect for a daytime look, while the bedazzled rhinestone masks would compliment any nighttime ensemble.
While a couple of Clare V’s mask styles have been waitlisted during quarantine, many of the currently available masks feature a red lip print emblem and dramatic ribbons to tie into bows.
Gender-neutral label Phlemuns has provided a couple options for protecting the visage; the Cloud mask is available in both avocado green and sky blue, while the Lemons mask comes adorned with the fruit and the brand logo. All masks feature a large grommet detail for the straps.
This brand’s masks envelop the face and nose in full moth or butterfly design. Many of the styles are available in two sizes and include a disposable, replaceable filter.
These breathable, cool air masks were designed with hot days in mind. It’s not recommended to wear a mask while working out, but this style’s mesh-like inner lining was intended to help you breathe easier in the event you are moving outside and unable to keep a considerable distance from others. Available in muted jewel tones and neutrals.
Many of this designer’s masks also have coordinating headbands available for purchase. Talk about endless style opportunities! Lele Sadoughi’s protective wear can also be worn with the brand’s sunglasses chain, so you never have to worry that your mask is far out of reach.
Let your face mask do all the talking with these embroidered coverings; the Los Angeles based company also sells a variety of corded retainers, so your mask never has to lay flat on any surface. You can opt for one cord for functionality or layer a couple for added pizzazz.
