JW Anderson’s SS20 campaign drips “Suburban Youthfulness”

Tyler Mitchell first broke records as the first Black photographer behind a Vogue cover shoot in over 100 years with the renowed Beyonce image. Since then, he has once again made headlines with the JW Anderson SS20 campaign, debuting its new collections styled by Jonathan Anderson and Benjamin Bruno.

Laced with Tyler’s signature style, the campaign depicts youth in a manner that seamlessly reflects the brand’s playful aesthetic. Crossing over from their FW19 motifs, there is the continued themes of empowerment and spirited elevation.

The campaign images have already gained a lot of online traction for the authentic representation of Black demographics who often feel inclusivity and diversity is a not much more than a buzz word.

Through it’s all Black casting, with varying hues of brown skin, afro hair textures and uncovential silhouttes, there’s an aesthetic that hits close to home and feels more appreciative than appropriating.
