Will Diplo “Get It Right” at Movement Detroit Festival?

Movement Electronic Music Festival, or Movement Detroit for short, is an iconic, annual electronic dance music event held in Detroit each Memorial Day weekend. Among the acts at this year’s upcoming festival are Carl Craig, DJ Premier, Wu-Tang Clan, Diplo, Claude VonStroke, Too Short and BADBADNOTGOOD.

As a festival known for showcasing the underground and upholding the integrity of techno music in the city that popularized it, a lot of people have had something to say about mainstream’s Diplo gracing this year’s lineup. I’m confused though. Didn’t Diplo already perform at Movement in 2012? And if you don’t care for Diplo’s music, can’t you just go see one of the many other artists who’ll be performing at the same time as him, at a different stage? It seems the techno community is one of the toughest to please in dance music. From Wu Tang Clan, Too Short, and Mija to Diplo the criticism came in heavy with Diplo taking the brunt of it, and responding with the adorable sarcasm that only Diplo would.

Fighting back at the haters, he Tweeted: “I’m going to play an alt-country set at Movement Detroit.” Another of my favourites was: “I already played movement in 2012 . before u got lost at burning man on ketamine and googled the Belleville three on your southwest flight back to Minnesota.

While the haters be hatin’, I’m still pressing replay on Diplo featuring MØ’s epic video for “Get It Right.” The video which shows a whole new side of Diplo, features him and MØ performing a choreographed dance sequence with a contemporary twist. You can tell the “Lean On” and “Cold Water” collaborators are truly good friends. The way they look at each other adoringly as they prance around an empty ballroom, really makes me smile. The video also reminds me of a very special time that I got tipped off about an exclusive after party that Diplo would be spinning at! My friend and I booked it to the venue just in time to grab a front row spot. Long story short, I danced with Diplo that night! Ok, so he held and swayed my hand back and forth for about 3.8 seconds, but it was the best 3.8 seconds of my life.

The bottom line, this track and it’s dance-heavy video are fire, and I’ve never been more in love with Diplo… and his man bun. I’m heading to Detroit.
